Production
Danish fish farmers stand for quality and for having the most environmentally-friendly fish production.
Today, an annual number of 30,000 to 32,000 tonnes of trout are cultivated in Denmark.
The production consists of trout caviar, smoked trout fillets, slaughtered and frozen fresh fish, live transport to Germany and many other products.
Around 6,000 people are working in or related to the fish industry.
Export
The Danish fish farmers have a large volume of exports, approximately 1 billion dollars annually. 90 percent of the total production in Danish Aquaculture is for export. The industry thus has a certain importance to Denmark's total exports abroad.
The main markets are Southern and Western Europe, but in recent years, exports to Eastern Europe, Russia and the Far East have increased greatly. There is also export to the USA.
Especially exports to Japan are significant. Primarily because Japanese wholesalers and manufacturers take trout spawn. Japan is the world's largest single market for salmonids and especially the demand for fish with beautiful red meat is high.
