Production volume and number of plants
Danish Aquaculture has a vision to produce around 60,000 tonnes of trout in fish farms, 40,000 tons of fish in sea farms and 5,000 tonnes of other species by the year 2015. This is an increase in production, where the industry will be environmentally neutral.
The production will probably be concentrated on fewer plants in future. This is acquired to give the industry a better position to compete on the international market. There is an increasing demand for fish in the EU, and in Denmark we would like to be up front to meet this demand.
Positive attitude towards fish-breeding
Fish industry is experiencing a positive attitude towards fish-breeding from the Danish Government. The government would like us to produce more fish, so we can prevent the harvesting of the oceans.
At the same time, fish is a healthy meal that fits with the government's attitude to healthy food for the Danish consumers - and there is an ever greater focus on this area.
Fish farming is thus in line with Danish politics.
Products from Danish fish farmers equal high quality and a high degree of food safety. This is obviously important to ensure sale both nationally and internationally.
