Special Transport of Live Trout
It is important to us that the fish are doing well during transport and loading. Thereby the fish's high quality and value is well-preserved.
We have our own truck and we transport the majority of our fish. Transporting fish requires a specially built truck. At the same time the truck every two years is going through a special heavy vehicle testing, so that it meets all legal requirements for transporting live fish. Our drivers have undergone the mandatory training in the transport of live fish.
The truck has a total of 12 containers. There are usually 18 to 19 m3 of water aboard. When we transport fish to the abattoir, we can carry 6,000 kg of fish at a time - the rest is water. The smaller the fish, the fewer kilograms we can bring. If the fish for example weigh about 50 grams each we carry only 3,000 kg.
The truck has liquid oxygen on board, because we constantly oxide the water during transport. That way there will be rotation in the containers, and the fish uses oxygen to breathe. There are no forms of excrements in the water since the fish have not been feed at least three days before transport. The water in the containers is being replaced after each trip, and we wash and disinfect the entire truck with iodine after each trip. This is very important in order to keep any kind of infection away from the farms and abattoirs.
We never carry too many fish in the truck. This has implications for both animal welfare and economics. We only get paid for the fish if they thrive when they arrive at their destination.
Delivery World Wide
Delivery over great distances is not possible by truck. Also many customers do not want live fish. They prefer that there has been some form of processing.
In these cases we typically provide the fish via container ship or aircraft.
Our truck will carry the fish to a Danish abattoir, which either only kills or kills and slaughters the fish. After this the fish are flash frozen and packed so they can be transported over great distances and still maintain a good quality product.
