Control of the Entire Chain

  • We buy trout ova which are hatched in our own two hatcheries.
  • When the ova hatched, and the trout have a certain size, they are put out in our production facility.
  • In addition to our own trout, we buy restocking fish from other Danish fish farmers.
  • In our production plant the trout are cultivated to the desired size.

Production Cycle

Freshwater Trout has an objective to make the best quality for consumers. This happens in close co-operation with the Danish factories and exporters.

At Freshwater Trout we produce about 3,000 tonnes of rainbow trout per year.

We get ova into our hatcheries on Idom and Abildtrup Fish Farm. The eggs hatch and when the fry are big enough, they come out for cultivating in the production facilities.

We also buy restocking fish from other fish farmers. These fish are mostly around 20 to 60 grams. We have the fish until they weigh approx. 330 grams on average, where they are delivered to the abattoirs. We use no forms of growth promoters. We ensure that our trout have the optimum surroundings, so they thrive the best.

Delivery to Abattoirs

All the fish are transported, live, to the abattoir. At the abattoir, they are unloaded in great vessels. They swim in the vessels until they are slaughtered. In this way, the fish stay totally fresh. 30 hours after the fish were swimming around, they are to be found in a deliciously smoked version, for example at the German consumers. Some of the fish are transported, live, direct to Germany, where German factories are responsible for further processing.
